I subscribe to U.S. News & World Report and in this weeks magazine there is an article about “The Dangerous Art of the Tattoo”. I think it is important to educate the general public about body art and the potential repercussions involved (ex. employment, stigma, regret, removal process, etc…) because so many people do not think things through. I found it interesting, but a little over the top (”Perhaps not surprisingly, most patients seeking removal are women, prompted by a disproportionate level of psychological distress and even tattoo stigma” (Healy, 2008). Anyway, here's the link if you would like to read…

Oh, man…are we in for another round of media hype regarding how “dangerous” tattoos are? *sigh*

A very good find, I do agree it is a bit over the top.
Its to bad that these days piercings and tattoos seem to be more of a fashion statement more than something that is personally significant to the person getting them.
I think as with -any- modifications it should be thouroughly considered [and sharpie'd in when it comes to tattoos] before going through with it.
Also maybe this article would be more appropriately posted here[?]:

Pretty much seems like a “here we go again” sort of thing.
Where do they get their statistics? 50% regret their tattoos? Where are they getting their facts about tattoo inks? Wow.
Mainly a guy thing? Women were getting heavily tattooed in America in the 20's (granted for circus sideshow acts, see the online documentary) but women in cultures around the world were getting ink before western culture was even a glimmer in the pond.
Ehh. Sad. Journalists who can't seem to stop leaning to the right side of things.

Thanks for the heads up on that section (I'm new around here). I will keep it in mind for the next time.

I believe that alot of people now are getting all this done just as a fashion statement . Very few people who do get it done feel that it goes with who they are . Not just because it is cool ! Every modification i do , i do it because it feels right , not because every one else is doing it .

This stuff DOES seem to come and go in waves, I find. We get outright VILLIFIED from time to time. We get a target painted on our backs and have to dodge like MAD for a year or so…then they leave us alone for a bit. *sigh*

Perhaps this is a bit too femininist to say but it seems like women have always been getting slighted one way or another. If it isn't tattoos, it was dress, hair, make-up, if we worked, etc, etc, etc. The statistics seem way out of proportion yet I chalk that up to yellow journalism (are we even still using that Twainism?). I wish more people would research but at least we're starting to become a cohesive community who is starting to educate the masses.
