I already talked to Midian about this, but he suggest i post it here too.

In regards to the site's store I see it having some potential legal hangups, that its current state could create. While I don't know those hangups I'm sure it would interfere with the church obtaining tax status.

My suggestion is to hold a pledge drive or something similar. Not only does it contribute in every way to a non-profit cause, but it is tax deductable for those that pledge.

Hope this helps.

That's definitely a good thing to be brought up, in my opinion. I know that a lot of Christian churches don't sell their wares through only the church, possibly because of the status of being non-profit/not-for-profit and tax reasons. Bibles are given away free almost everywhere, religious iconography is sold in retail outlets, whether they're “Christian surplus stores” or wal-mart (there is a difference… sort of). Perhaps finding shops and other willing retail outlets to sell merchendise, donating 100% of the profits to the Church would work?

Note the caveat that appears at the bottom of the store page: “These items are not being sold 'for profit.' These items are being provided for members who wish to further identify themselves with the Church of Body Modification. Items are being sold at our cost, or slightly above to cover the logistical cost of ordering and distributing such items. If items have been donated to the Church for sale, proceeds go toward operating costs. Operating costs include business and filing fees (as with Corporation filing fees). This financial information is available upon request.”

Another important topic; keep them coming! In response to this one, we have not sold any merchandise nor accepted any donations and will continue this until we are fully incorporated (by the way, the State has accepted & filled our necessary documents!).

It's also important to note that being a non-profit group does not mean that we can not make money. It has more to do with where the money goes. In the CoBM's instance, profit goes back into the church and NOT to the president, board members, or anyone else.

Perhaps it'd be beneficial in the future to involve businesses who support the culture as well as the obvious shops and organizations by asking them to sponsor us as well. I know that many local businesses in my area are always interested in donating space, funds, services to non-profit organizations, so maybe have representatives contact their local businesses and chat with them about potential sponsorships.

Not a bad idea. I'll start scouting around the area for business' that might seem prime.

Before anyone scouts however, and of course I forgot to mention this, we may want to come up with a sponsorship packet which explains the mission statement, statement of faith, by-laws and anything else about who we are and most importantly what we can do for our communities. Most businesses won't consider anything unless there is a communal benefit, as well as a benefit to their business, i.e. our members supporting their business.

Maybe, if the board finds it necessary, Allen could write this packet and submit it to the board for final approval?

You bring up a good point about the a shared benefit, it is something I didn't consider. I hadn't planned on approaching any business with an offer without running it by the Board, or memebers of the church for that matter. I was more referring to just looking for business that might seem likely candidates rather.

I don't think I'd be comfortable approaching a business as a representative/liason of the church until I myself were better educated, or until things were a bit more established anyways.

I defo like the idea of a sponsorship packet, it would save alot of time and avoid many repeat speeches.

Maybe we should WAIT for guidance from the BOARD before we do any scouting or make any decisions on our own?  The direction of the Church, while influenced by its membership, should also have specific and codified guidance.  This is not in place yet, so it is too early to act.  Keep generating ideas, look around your area, think about what you might want to do or how you can HELP, but be CAREFUL about acting on our behalf before you know what the official response is, I think…

I have to admit, I struggle with that concept daily.  I need to be patient for good things to come to me, and I need to be patient about the passing of difficult things in my life, too.  It's a quality I have to ACTIVELY culture within myself…it's a challenge, to say the least….

You should look into chakra balancing if you haven't. It's a great way to cultivate patience, is to meditate in a way that helps you realign your chakras.

Ello, PM me a little more about this chakra balancing?  I'd like to know more.  Sounds like something I could use.  Help!  :)

Sure thing! I'll see what I can send you that'll get you started. Otherwise, I can recommend some literature too. If anyone else is interested, let me know!

-raises hand-

Defo interested here. I consider myself pretty patient, but my buttons can get pressed from time to time.

Wow!  Ello, that was some great info you provided.  There's got to be somewhere here where that would be appropriate to post for all of us.  Love it!

Very very good info. How related are chakras and energy pulls, if at all?

Now THAT is a good question!  Any answers out there?  I'll have to put some serious thought into how each kind of pull has/may have effected my “chakras” and vice versa.

I don't have any experience with this yet, but my guess is that if you were to pull from a chakra (from the heart chakra for example) that it would affect that chakra and the energy flow through it in some way.

It is the soul, not the eyes, that sees art.
