So, I recently contacted El Verno from Visual Addiction in St. Paul, MN about doing a flesh pull in preparation for a future suspension (which would be my 1st suspension).
I want to do a superman or lotus suspension sometime within the next year or two. I've done pulls before but only on a small scale (pulls done from small gauge play piercings or my lobes)
I'm thinking that I want to do a chest pull but I'm not sure how well that would prepare me for either of the two suspensions (different areas of the body=different sensation?). I really want to go with the lotus but for my first suspension I think I should do something where my weight is a little more evenly distributed on the hooks.
If I were to do a chest pull would I have to shave my chest (in part or entirely)?
Which of the two suspensions would be a better choice for my first or is there not going to be much of a difference?
Is there anything else that I should think about/keep in mind?
I plan on posting pictures and/or videos of both the pull and the suspension once I do them.

You'll definitely find that pulling from different parts of the body will have different sensations. A couple different types that I like to start people out with are the shoulder blade areas or forearms. These spots won't be very painful and will give you the opportunity to do some good pulls. Chest pulls are a little more intense, but still a good experience. If you plan to do a lotus or superman suspension, pulling from your back would likely be more realitive in experience to warm up with.
If the areas to be pierced are rather hairy, then shaving those particular spots is advisable.
I look forward to hearing about your experience!
My first pull was a 2pt chest pull, where I connected my 8g hooks to a wall indoors at a friend's house and pulled from that. I didn't go the common route, as I already experienced two vertical suspensions prior to my pull.

I'm going to do my pull (and eventually my suspension) outdoors. I'd like to do the pull from on my bike (if I do a back pull) but that just doesn't seem at all wise.
Thanks for the advice/info Russ! It's really appreciated.

I was wondering, do you think that I could safely do a pull from atop my bicycle? Of course I'd go slowly and be as cautious as possible but…. would it be worth the risk?

Are you meaning that you'd be basically towing something behind you from your back as you ride? I don't see how you could pull from a stationary object while on your bike.

I was thinking of maybe putting somebody on a skateboard or rollerblades and towing them. Again, not sure of how safe this would actually be so I haven't decided yet.

That clarifies things.
I can see it being completely doable, but it sounds like something that both parties should be quite experienced to pull off safely. You'd want locking hooks and a few other precautions covered on the tech side of things.

Well, Verno gets back into town tomorrow so I'll discuss it with him and see what he thinks about it all.

I cant wait to do my first flesh pull . It will be very interesting i think . I believe that if i can take the pain of a flesh pull then il be able to do a suspension. My mum doesnt think its right . But she has said that she would be there the first time i do a flesh pull . I have also had a frind who said they would video tape it for me which will be gd .
Hope yours goes well

I find my pulls to be very different experiences than my suspensions. I suspect it is the difference between actively pulling against something/someone and having your body weight redistributed automatically during a suspension. The sensations are VERY different to me. Spiritally, they are very different, too. I find I get much closer to my “higher power” when I suspend than when I pull (although there is, obviously, one pull recently that trumps that concept).
