Neur@l and I are going to be suspending next Wednesday (Oct. 22nd). He plans on going straight for a suicide suspension while I intend on going up in a superman and possibly (I'd like to say probably but can't garuntee that) being cut into a suicide after I'm in the air.
This is going to be both of our's first suspension and I am strongly looking forward to it. I've contacted some of my friends who are photographers to see if I can get some great shots of it (there will be pictures regardless) and I may be able to get my hands on a video camera as well
I'm curious what advice people have in the way of preparing myself for this?
Also, this may not be the best place to ask this but here goes:
I'm hypoglycemic, which is essentially the opposite of diabetes. Where a diabetic needs to keep their glucose (blood sugar) levels low, mine need to be high. I picked up some glucose tablets but I'm not sure how they work… anyone know?

3 tablets equal 15 grams of carbohydrates. You may wish to run it past your doctor because he or she will be better able to tell you how many carbs to ingest before the suspension. Keep in mind 3 tablets takes 15 minutes to take effect. You'd do well to protein load before bcause the protein will help keep your bloodsugars stable. Adding cinnamon capsules also helps to regulate and stabilize blood sugars but I don't think even if you start taking them today you'd have enough in your system to make a huge difference, but you could try. You can pick them up at any store like Target or Wal-Mart. However, as with anything, always check with your doctor first to keep them in the loop about what you are doing. They know your health history and can advise you better then anyone else. Enjoy!

With the tablets I have, 3 tablets would be 12 grams of carbohydrates. Not much of a difference though. Thanks for the advice about the “protein load” though.

Not a problem. I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy and ended up on insulin, so I had to learn a lot about carbs and proteins and how they effect blood sugar. I wish Awen and I could come watch y'all. I've never seen a suspension up close, only things portrayed on movies and my guess is that isn't how it works lol. (The Cube comes to mind, darn weird movie).
Take Care and if I can look up anything or share anything more in regards to blood sugar let me know.

When your sugar levels drop during a suspension, they drop fast. Be prepared for that.
I enjoy cut-downs for the abruptness. If you drop your weight quickly, you may find that it instantly feels like a new suspension altogether. If this is the route you go, be sure that your rigging can accommodate the shock of the load dropping.

Everything went great! Neur@l stayed up for 15-20 min. with a 4 pt suicide. I stayed up for only 2-3 min. with a 8 pt superman. More info and pics to come soon.
