For a while now, the Church has had an online chatroom where members can meet up at any time and chat about body modification as well as any other topic. This chatroom has also been used to hold CoBM classes and formal group meetings, such as the one on August 12th. Though most people access the chatroom via the CoBM website at http://uscobm.com/chat/, the chatroom may also be accessed by most smartphones via an app.
The type of chatroom the CoBM uses is called IRC, Internet Relay Chat. IRC is mainly designed for group communication but also allows one-to-one communication via private message. To get the CoBM chatroom on your smartphone, first you must download an IRC client. For Android users, one popular and free app is AndChat. For iOS users, which includes the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, IRC999 is a free option.
Once you have the app downloaded and opened, you’ll need to input some information specific to our chatroom. No matter the app you choose, the steps will generally be the same. First, you will need to add a new profile. The app you use may instead have the option to add a new server; this is the same thing. At this point, enter the following information:
Title/Name: CoBM Chat
Password: leave blank
Channel/ Auto Join: #churchofbodmod
Nick/Nickname: Whatever you would like to be known as in the chatroom.
For any other option, leave blank or unchecked. Once you have the information entered correctly, save the profile and then click CoBM Chat. Congratulations, you should now be in the CoBM’s official IRC chatroom! If you run into any issues, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the chatroom via website at http://uscobm.com/chat/ and someone there may be able to assist you.
For those that don’t know, that chatroom is open at all times and there may or may not be anyone present in the chatroom at any given time. Members are welcome to meet up in the chatroom any time they wish.
