i was reading a few of these and i have to say they are quite amusing. i can relate to a few like when people ask me “did it hurt” when referring to the red ink on my shins. i tell them “at first yes, but after a few seconds i couldnt feel a thing.” with that explanation ive had a few ‘hardcores’ look at me and say “damn.” i say this not to brag because i know there are people here that can take more than i can.
and i also want to say thanks to jimmyenglish for serving for it is the soldier not the poet that gives us the freedom of speech.

Nice going Jimmy! That’s exactly the kind of response we need to offer people when they give us crap over our mods. I applaud you.
And Corey, lol. Yeah, I’m not worried about the opinion of ignorant people. It only allows me an opportunity to relieve them of their ignorance, and while it’s not always successful, I always try.
Incidentally, this thread reminds me of another, which was not exactly the same topic, but similar.

Oh yes… the “you’re so pretty, why?” Many cultures and tribes get piercings to intentionally discourage other tribes from finding the women attractive. I usually reply with something like, “some people find me pretty and beauty comes from within.” I also really love the questions about being old… that really makes me laugh… like I’m going to age in some different way???!!! My daughter, who is 4, likes to stick her fingers through my ear lobes and tell me she wants to “swing from the Mama tree.”
How about “can you get past a metal detector?”

i get the metal detector one alot i always tell them no it doesnt set em off but the best part is the look on the guys face at the airport when you get in his line and he just has the look of why me ……..and sommersett thats so freakin adorable

Other Moms have walked up to me on a public playground and asked me, “what will your children think?” I reply, “they will think what I teach them about and explore more as they grow and learn.” I am in a certain position now that I am a Mother. I try NOT to defend myself or try to prove to someone I am a good Mom, which is what I feel like they are trying to say. I also try not to hit them in the face. (ha ha ha) I see other parents react in a certain way when their kids play with mine.
Does anyone ever get tired of the attention? Sometimes I’m like, “I just want to buy a freakin tomato plant and that’s it…. no questions about me today.”
Also, I feel like I have MORE to deal with being an attractive woman in society. If men are freaky and sexy it’s cool or intimidating, but if women are… the other women are pissed and the men get in trouble!!!

Lol. Nah, didn’t hurt a bit. I type about 60-70 wpm, so it didn’t take too long. Also, I’m a bit of an aspiring writer. I often find that I have a lot to say on a subject and I think it would hurt more if I didn’t say it.
I think you’ll find that long posts are quite common from me. I just hope I’m not boring people. Like Stephen King once said of himself, I have often been accused of having diarrhea of the word processor.
And for the record, I think it’s the Christians who are opening up the can of worms when they judge, condemn, and attempt to punish others. Judgement and condemnation are God’s responsibility. Punishment is Satan’s responsibility. If they really understood their own religion they’d know they have no business doing any of that.

My favorite bible quote has to be 1 Corinthians 11:14 “Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him”, yet all of the traditional pics of Jesus depicts him with long wavy blonde hair lol. I just find it humorous, not trying to “bash” anyone here who may be christian.

Oh, goodness…this topic is hilarious.
Of course, the “did that hurt” along with the grab-hands. The people who touch annoy me the most. Sometimes I can stand it long enough to courteously ask them to stop touching me, but usually it comes out something like yelling, “OH MY GOD I DID NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO TOUCH ME!”
There was a party that I was at once and I was wearing a short skirt. Unfortunately, there was a lady there who was a bit intoxicated, and she caught sight of my suspension scars on my knees and asked if I got attacked by a dog or something, while running her fingers over my scars. She kept asking what happened, so I told her very plainly. She then decided to get on a soap box, at which point I told her I was done with the conversation and left the room. She followed and attempted to keep the conversation going, so I ended it with “lady, I don’t know you and you decided to touch me. This is rude. I don’t want to have this conversation because I don’t give a fuck what you have to say.” I think she got the point that time.
I don’t like people touching me….

Just adding my 2 shekels in this area
1) I have never gotten the metal detector question .. even when wearing 00g hoops in my ears … nor has it ever setoff a metal detector (and I have been through a lot)
2) I only go the ‘did that hurt’ a couple of times … when I was younger … and it was always about my septum
3) I have never had anyone try to touch me … at least not to examine my mods
Maybe this is due to me being older … maybe it is due to what a wiccan / druid friend of mine once told me … she said I was a powerful empath … I cant say … Or maybe it is just me ignoring people after so many years … I just know that I get very few comments

I was just thinking…I don’t think there’ve been too many people trying to touch me. There’ve been a few occasions here and there, but it’s not very common at all, and it’s usually women who try to touch me.
I suppose it’s because I’m a big dude and maybe people are intimidated. I was once told that I’m a little unapproachable, and that was before I had visible mods.
As far as how I deal with it, unwelcome hands are brushed aside and I assert my right not to be touched. Then I usually get an apology and the person asks if they can touch. If they’re polite about it, and if it’s a woman asking, I usually agree. Especially if it’s a pretty woman. lol

I agree with the older ‘big dudes’ about touch, it’s very rare for someone to touch me compared to asking questions. I’ve had it a few times. Once a drunk guy in the pub staring at my ears, who said ‘sorry do you mind?’, which i took to mean the staring so said no, and he proceeded to feel my ears! The others which come to mind are girls stroking my tattoos, which has happened a couple of times.
My niece and nephew touch my mods, as they are interested (they’re 6 and 5), but they always ask first. They know about good hygiene and aftercare!
As for questions, i have noticed a definite increase since i have been dressing more smartly. I wonder if this makes me less intimidating or something, as i guess i’m a big chap.
Thinking about it i get much less ‘what about your job?’, ‘what about when you get old?’ or ‘what does your Mum think?’ type questions when i’m smartly dressed. More about the mod itself, or why i have them.
Still get ‘does it hurt?’ every few days though!

I love this! I have to get dressed up quite a bit for some fraternity functions that we do and I always do a three piece suit. I must say that with 1″ bottom lobes and 2g top lobes, my three bar chin scar, and the three piece suit I must say that I am one sexy looking motherfu…. I also love it because even with my mods more people think i look more professional than the other members, good ol’ Marine Corps uniform tricks.

My response is generally “Yes” to the MJ one, but everything else I actually explain what I’m doing with it.

I get that one too. People who assume I enjoy pain think I’m crazy.
Now, I know there are those who enjoy pain, and in very controlled circumstances, a small amount of pain can be good, but I don’t enjoy high levels of pain.
When people tell me I must enjoy pain, or I’m crazy because I enjoy pain, I try to explain that, for me, a major part of body modification is about learning self-discipline and patience; that learning to stay calm and tolerate great pain isn’t much different than staying calm when I’m provoked to anger, and if I can stay calm while experiencing great pain, I can stay calm when experiencing great anger.
This means I’m not powerless against my anger, or other instincts. Even if everything within me is telling me to do something, I am still capable of thinking clearly and holding back my instincts if my logical mind tells me it’s not a good idea.
Most people seems to understand this, if not accept it.

I always get ” Did that hurt?” for my septum from strangers.
The ones that really piss me off are from people I consider my friends and friends of friends, and even one crackhead. ALL a regarding my septum. To quote a few:
“You look like a buffalo” -_- bitch please you ain’t shit.
“you look like one of those starving African people looking for food, it’s not cute” -Now this one was from the crackhead. First let me say I lived with my friend for a few months. Her parents are crackheads/dealers. They sometimes have random crackheads coming in the house all hours of the night. This particular crackhead female, frequented the place a lot, and would perform oral sex on my friends dad, in front of the mother, for crack. So let’s just say her opinion did not matter at all.
“It looks like boogers are coming out of your nose, it’s disgusting” my parents
“get out of the kitchen” my dad while he was eating. I’ve actually gotten into a physical fight with my dad…which I got blamed for…over my septum…fun times..
“I don’t wanna see it”- my mom. I almost always keep it flipped up in my nose when I’m around my parents.
“you look ugly”- my friends dad, the crackhead.
that’s pretty much all i remember, besides the random looks and stares from strangers, I think I have begun to enjoy those 
. I still have it, and I plan to stretch it 
.
Oh yea, I was walking with a friend, and I told her about my plan to stretch my ears, she just had a heart attack, keep saying noooooo noooo nooooo, and then she threatened to never hang out with me if I did that. Then she proceeds to tell me, and i quote:
“I can deal with your septum because that is who you are, stretched ears are so gross if you stretch your ears I’m never gonna hang out with you. *pause for my uncontrollable laughter* I’m serious! they are so gross, they are all floppy and disgusting and blahblahblah” I kinda tuned her out because I really couldn’t give a shit whether she was my friend out not. This is coming from a girl with a nose piercing,a belly button piercing, and plans for breast implants; shes 18…if she can threaten a friendship with me over how see myself, she does not mean shit to me…and I can’t wait to stretch my ears >:D.

At my friend’s house with girl from previous conversation and a couple other friends and I’m talking about my plans to stretch, and hell just for the fun of seeing their gross out reactions, I talk about my plans to split my tongue, which is.
they are all like “omg that is gross why would you wanna do that?”
I don’t really wanna explain my personal reasoning to such ignorant bitches so I just say, “they were doing these things thousands of years ago in Africa”
“Well we are not in Africa!” – girl from previous conversation… It irked me but I let it go because she is white and she probably wouldn’t understand, still don’t care…Yea I’m surrounded by that…safe to say I don’t see them a lot.
and that’s about it!
