Not the One Suspending | General Discussion | Forum
A few around here have heard me talk about the fact that I may have the opportunity to help facilitate suspensions in the future. Well, tonight is going to be my first time assisting with such. I'm a little nervous about taking part but also very excited to be able to help someone else experience the amzing things that I've experienced through suspension. I've only ever experienced suspending through being the one going up on hooks myself and although I've seen what's expected through the eyes of the suspendee, this is most definately going to be a new experience for me. Mostly I'm nervous about doing something wrong, though I know its mostly not a realistic fear. I've got one of the best who I'm assisting, after all. I just want the experience to be wonderful for the person going up. I'm super excited and looking forward to helping out with this. Anyway, this ended up being pretty rambling. I'll probably post when the experience is all said and done, regarding how it actually went and what the experience was actually like.

Yes, definitely let us know how it goes, what sort of suspension it is, or any other details you can pass along. I'd especially like to hear about the atmosphere and if the person is planning anything out of the ordinary to incorporate into the suspension.
And don't be worried as, like you said, Russ is a professional and won't let anything go wrong.

So far I really don't know anything about it aside from the fact that it'll be their first suspension. It was kind of a last minute thing and I wouldn't have even been able to be involved tonight except for the fact that work spontaneously let me off a couple hours early. Maybe its a sign that this is just meant to be
Don't worry too much, i'm sure you'll be guided as to your role, so it'll be fine.
I bet you'll learn so much! I'd pay good money to be in your shoes!
We're having a suspension meet tomorrow night, but no Russ type guru unfortunately!
As it turns out, the suspension in question was a first timer doing a 4 pt suicide. Last night was mostly about learning and observing, trying to capture and, more importantly, actually remember all the information that was being thrown at me. For much of it I just sort of hovered behind Russ listening to everything he had to say and asking as many questions as I could think of. The one thing I was actively a part of was blood duty; making sure no drips of blood from the suspendees back actually dripped down her back or onto the floor.
Overall I'm really happy how Russ is handling it. I was worried that I'd be overwhelmed with all the new information and new skills that would have to be picked up. Its a little bit different being on the other end of the hooks. I also found it to be incredibly empowering to help someone get off the ground and suspend for the first time, even if my actual involvement was relatively small. I can't wait to have the opportunity to do it again!
