I may be wrong, but in most cases i have come across, modded people are metalheads! Pun not intended :P this is true for myself and all modified folk i know personally, but I was wondering what music you other modders are into? :)

I certainly was a metal head from much of my teens, and still like some metal. My tastes have widened a lot since then though. It might be a boring answer, but i like absolutely all sorts now. I'm not keen on country or r'n'b, but even then there's some i do like.

I've never been into metal, although I agree that most of my friends have been. I have always been more into punk than anything else. I've had a chance to see Nirvana and The Dead Milkmen and many others not together anymore. I've never really liked Metalica and I will only tolerate Black Sabbath for a few hours.
I am a child of hippies (could you guess with a name like Sommersett!!??) and I have a older brother who was born in 1964. He is 12 years older than me. He influenced my music preference with classic Rock like Pink Floyd and LedZeppelin from birth and I think it's why I'm such a trippy lover and dreamer. Punk and industrial have been my personal choice since I was a teen.
I'm super open minded to all music and I will listen to anything once!!

I'm a pretty big metal head and have been since before I started modifying myself. In my experience tattoos and piercings are quite popular in the culture but I see very little in the way of more heavy work. I also listen to a lot of industrial and other sorts of music as well, however. I don't like to limit myself to only 1 genre.

As I thought :) while I do enjoy music from all genres, I cannot stand for more than a song or two from any given genre aside from metal – I rely on heavy music as much as my modifications to give me escape, express every detail of myself, and just make me happy in general.

I used to listen to almost exclusively metal for much the same reason. Music is such an important part of my life and a large part of how I maintain my sanity. Then I started branching into heavy industrial which grew into more dancy industrial which has recently grown to include psytrance and actually going to a psytrance club night. A few years ago I never would have expected to enjoy dancy music or dancing itself but I've become unexpectedly hooked. Metal is always where my heart is going to be, I think, but there is a lot of other amazing music out there as well.

Vampyremage- please share with us some groups in the industrial and psytrance genres you like so we can all enjoy. I just let my thoughts wander to you dancing and I am delighted you are feeling it on the dance floor! I absolutely adore dancing and I dance every single day with or without audible music playing. Sometimes I dance in the grocery store and I always dance while I'm cooking.

Has anyone ever taken any dance lessons? Tango is awesome!

That's sounds awesome Strommer. For psytrance there's not much I can recommend aside from a couple of local DJs. I'm still too new to the genre to be especially familiar with the bands out there. For industrial there's a few that I really enjoy. Wumpscut has been my favourite for a long time along with Combichrist, FCFC820 and Psychlon Nine. I'm definitely more partial to the heavier and harsher stuff out there.

I recommend Shpongle or Infected Mushroom for those wishing to dip a toe into psytrance.

I'm not sure how I missed Infected Mushroom actually. I'm going to see them live next Saturday. Pretty stoked about it.

I think Oakbear took the words right off my keyboard.

Sometimes I wonder if I can say anything in less than a hundred words.

Only a handful of hours until I'm at Infected Mushroom seeing them live. Suffice to say I'm very excited for this one.

I have been into metal way back since I can remember. It's definitely what got me into body mods. It's what I see at shows all the time: people with big earlobes, other piercings, and tattoos. It turned me onto this stuff. I first started out because I liked the way it looked, then I noticed what the life is like, and I fell in love with it. Sorry about the life story haha

I am not a metal head. I'm actually a classically trained musician. I play the piano, flute, guitar, and have been taking cello lessons for the past 3 years. Most people I listen to write on the piano, but I am also a huge Tom Waits fan

I LOVE Tom Waits!
I often wish i had been trained formally when i was younger in an instrument, but have been self taught. It means i muddle along quite well, but would love to sight read. I can play most things with strings (to a degree) though!

Metal was an accessible gateway genre when first listening to music as a hobby but the more and more I found music outside of it, the less I've ever wanted to look back. Outside of the occasional show I'll accompany friends to, I avoid the stuff like a traffic jam.

I do enjoy metal along with most other forms of rock but I actually prefer opera, classical, and some of the more modern artists that combine classical with electric music such as techno or dub step. Basically, I love the sound of string instruments with a modern bass element.

When I was 11-13 metal was my outlet, then I stumbled onto The Ramones and Misfits at 13. I can't go back even at 26. I love punk rock. I also saw the Dead Milkmen and they play maybe one show a year in Philly still. Punk has so many sounds that it keeps me in a happy state. No other music can fix a bad day or get me going. I will listen to anything, but usually don't feel it in my soul.

Be someone you are proud of!

I'm into so many different types of music. I tend to sway mostly towards alternative and industrial, as its what my ears love, but I also love metal and punk.
I just saw William Control on Monday night. He puts on one hell of a show <3

These things have hardened in our soft pink bellies.

I would not consider myself a "metalhead", but I definitely do listen to the heavier rock and some metal.
