My 8 year old son and I were kicked out of The Legoland Discovery Center at Grapevine Mills Mall, TX location due to unfair treatment and discrimination. We walked in, lined up, had our pictures taken and paid. (A little over $50.00 for both of us into Legoland and the adjoining aquarium) After 10 minutes of play time with my son, I was approached by Melanie, and was
promptly escorted out of the main area while she proceeded to tell me that I was being asked to leave and offered a refund due to a customer complaint about my tattoos. My son overheard everything she was telling me and was instantly heart-broken due to his love of Legos and not understanding why my tattoos were cause for us to be ushered out of something so amazing in his eyes and I had unfortunately made the entire day a huge surprise. I was given no option but to either take my money back and leave, or just leave. My son and I attend MANY ‘family-friendly’ functions and parks and to be singled out and discriminated upon in front of my son and the other couple of dozen people standing around us was belittling and embarrassing. Not to mention that after the refund, we wanted the picture they had taken of us and Melanie had to again, escort us like martyrs back through the play area to the photo desk. She treated us like convicts, which I can only imagine in what ways this shattered my kid’s ideas of society as a whole. I have never been treated this way, and refuse to be looked down upon for the way I look. I am seeking legal advice, but stand here with open arms to suggestions and assistance to make a widely know, LOUD example out of this situation. My heart to the children of the complainer, may they not grow up to be judgmental little haters.

I do not have any legal advice to offer, but I do offer my sympathies. This is one of the most horrible and unfortunate examples of body modification discrimination that I have heard of. I am so sorry you and your son had to go through that.

I appreciate that more than you know.
Never having been subject nor witness to discrimination to this severity, I am still in shock. Sure, I have been sat in restaurants in awkward places and, of course, stared down regularly, but this is something that my kid can now mark down as one of his early childhood memories, its sad, but I know he will be that much more accepting of people, regardless of their appearance, as this day rests in the back of his mind. More than anything, we, as individuals of a group have to have our Civil Law, WE deserve respect, jobs and family outings with our children!

I can only offer my sympathy and understanding. I’ve been the victim of prejudice and harassment and indeed physical assault on many occasions and in many ways. Sadly, there’s nothing about your story that shocks me. The only surprise to me was that there was no one waiting in the parking lot to attack you.
Please don’t let anyone intimidate you into doing anything less than everything you can. And learn self defense. Everyone in this world needs to know how to defend themselves, whether they fit into the main-stream or not.
But believe me, there are a lot of Christians in this country who have no idea what their messiah was really trying to teach. Many Christians believe that it is their duty to convert or kill people who are not Christian.
There were a few people who tried to attack me just to prove that they were tougher than me, but 99% of the times I’ve needed to defend myself it was because my attacker was a Christian and they believed I was evil because of my visible mods.
This makes self defense an even larger need for people who may be targeted by these groups.

Thank you so much. It disheartens me to have seen via all my recent research how many occurances and how frequently this happens. You’re right, its very surprising I wasnt walking out to a beat-down. Just a severe injustice, and I guess I am used to it on an individual basis, as we all are, but I cant sit idle and let a major company pull this shit. Today is a new day!! Thanks you btw for the compliment on my pieces, I am blessed with an amazing artist who knows me and exceptional eye for placement

I wanted to, indi, believe that! But first and foremost, I have to be an example to my son, second, I am sure that is EXACTLY what they presumed I would do, so I was the epitome of composure and maturity. I am fighting this fight properly, with intent to prove a serious point for everyone who embraces the beautification of their temple.
What a sick sad world. It’s not like you had, “motherfucker” tattooed on your face. Someone random asked me once if I had Hep C because of my tattoos… some people are ridiculous and so close minded. Pathetic. I say sue the shit outta em’!

My absolute condolences for you having to experience this. That you had the grace to take it as maturely as possible is a matter of great respect on my part for you. If anything at all I can offer some of my strength and luck to you regarding this issue. Keep your head held high and don’t let them get the best of you. We all have equal rights and they should respected. We are not second-class citizens, we work, pay our taxes and provide for ourselves and our families.

I think we’ve all run into things like that before, but this is by far one of the worst and most heart wrenching ones I have seen in a long time.
Just yesterday my friend and I were harassed by someone for the way we looked and how I only have one of my ears noticeably stretched(My left lobe is stretched to 1 1/8in and my right lobe is stretched to 7/16s, however you cannot see my right lobe due to the length of my hair).
This stories are getting more and more frequent, and it’s frankly upsetting to see and hear about.
Keep your head up though.
The times are changing and hopefully this type of discrimination will be one of the first things to change for the better.

I just got off the phone with my mother, she is one of my greatest strengths throughout life and greatest supports through this ordeal now. And she even realizes that this is an injustice on levels that should have gone by the wayside back in the 50′s. I will be the spokesperson for our equality, if that is what is needed. Seems to have worked for many other cultures and interests..

I think all of us need to start standing up for each other against this type of hate, because it is becoming more and more frequent and it needs to be stopped.
I think we could all become spokesmen for people who hold body modification in such high regard.
People just need to realize it’s our bodies and our lives, not their’s and they don’t need to be involved or take action against us for something that doesn’t effect them.

Actually it’s an injustice when you belittle people for stating their opinion. The sad fact is, ‘Christians’ are not, what they used to. They have now become bigoted and self-serving. Christ would be disheartened to see his so called followers denying the love he so tried to bring. Not all Christians (Myself Catholic) admonish and do not turn a blind eye. The only legal advice I can give you, look into legal help after all they have violated your civil rights and 1st Amendment for freedom of speech.

This is the tattoo that got her kicked out of Legoland. Tinkerbell fucking a light switch. It is on her calf — otherwise known as eye level for a three year old.
