So I am a new member to the CoBM but i have been modifying my body
for many years. My next journey that i want to take is to get my tongue
split but my girlfriend, that i truley love, doesn't agree with it. She
has many piercings and a couple of tattoos but she doesn't agree with me
getting my tongue split. I think that it would be a very special
experience for me, but the thought of it grosses her out.
Should i respect her wishes or is there some sort of compromise
that someone thinks we could come to in this situation. Someone please
help me with this problem.

I don't believe that you should base your decisions about your body modifications on other peoples opinions or beliefs. If we all did that, none of us would be modified because it wouldn't be socially acceptable (alot less people would get them). However, on the other hand, it's not like you can't wait a while before you get it done. You may be able to convince her to explain your reasoning more or you may not end up together. Either way, the decision is yours to make, as it should be.

My husband wants to split his tongue, and although it does NOT gross me out, I'm still concerned for him. He's held back, I believe, because I'm not behind it 100%. But I did tell him that I'm behind HIM 100% and I back whatever choice he makes. Splitting your tongue is a personal decision. You need to weigh the risks and benefits to determine if it really is the right modification for you. If you decide it is, you need to have a heart-to-heart with your girlfriend and tell her how much it means to you. She should support you, even if she disagrees with your decision.

I've been in the same situation. I'm still going to split it. I say this is an experience for YOU and YOU alone, regardless of the fact that she'll have to deal with it. This is your body and your church here is what it's all about. Find the spirituality in it and go.

This is an intresting Situation. In my opinion, while this is your decision to make and I normally wouldn't try to tell people to do what other's think, I honestly wouldn't go through with this (if you haven't already). While you may always have the split tongue, your girlfriend is a different story. If you truly love her, I wouldn't go through with it, but this is your decision to make. I'm just telling you what I'd do.
