I'm really curious about experiencing Hook Suspension. Unfortunately it is illegal in the state of Florida unless under the supervision of a MD. I'm just wondering if anyone knows any locations in Florida that have the ability to suspend by hooks  because they have an MD, or if there is somewhere in Georgia or Alabama near the Florida border. I'd also appreciate comments about people who have experienced it.

I'm nervous yet eager to give it a try. I feel like it might be a whole new level in my selnse of spiritual awakening and release.

Also, if there is anyone else in Florida who would be interested in making a trip somehwere to do hook suspension let me know. I'm sure we could work out some kind of road trip.

I personally don't know anyone in the area, but I'm sure you can find something here: http://suspension.org/groups.htm

Let us know how it does if you do end up suspending.

I checked out the site (thanks for link btw) and I sent an email to the Georgia location. The Florida locations are no longer open.

I am curious if anyone knows if suspension can damage tattoos. I'm not as knowledgable about hook suspesnion as of yet so I am not sure if it will harm my tattoo or not.

PyroSatyr, ask at you local piercing studio, you never know! Prohibition tends to simply move things underground…

As for harming a tattoo, the process will cause come scarring (as will any piercing), although this is likely to be relatively minor in most cases with experience practitioners. However, if pierced in a tattooed area, it may cause some mark. There may be ways to avoid the design depending on the specifics though, and you can go through all that while planning.

Oakbear -- Thanks for the advice about tatts and all. I did try going to about 15 piercing studios in the area but all outright refuse to even talk about it. Too risky they say because if one piercer is found doing it and he works at a shop, then every piercer at the shop loses their liscence as well.

Sorry asking around din't help. It may be that they didn't want to get involved, or perhaps they're cagey if they didn't know you (perhaps even if you aren't visibly heavily moddified?). Maybe building a relationship with a studio would help. I know that i got fairly simple answers to some questions i asked a few years back at my regular studio, but now they know me are happy to give more info.

Other than that check BME, and possible think about travelling out of state…

At the moment my plan is to try to get a group of Floridians to join me in a road trip to Georgia for a weekend event of it. Just need to find people and a place.

There are suspension teams all over the U.S. Go online and search for suspension teams in Florida or surrounding states. Email them asking if they know of a team in your area. Most of them keep in contact or at least know of others in their area. Not all suspension teams are affiliated with piercing shops either. I could not imagine that in that whole state, nobody is hanging from hooks. If not, road trips are pretty sweet. Good luck.

I don't know if they suspend others or if it's just a group/performance type thing, but Skin Mechanics Suspension is in Boca Raton, FL.  Even if they don't suspend the general public, if you speak with them they could definitely set you up with someone who does and offer any advice or answer any questions you have.  On suspension.org the contact information for SMS is joeamato@gmail.com, I'm sure if you send him an email, he can help you out as much as possible.

I emailed the guy about two weeks ago and still no reply. Not really sure if they are still open. Did a search for them and it said they had recently closed.

PyroSatyr – Glad you found somewhere! Be sure to let us know how it goes! I've neer heard of suspending at sea before, but that could be amazing!

Schafer – I couldn't find your Facebook, but found your awesome knee suspension video on Youtube. Very cool!
