Thinking of getting my nipples pierced.  Should I go with bars or rings?  Also debating stainless steel or titanium.

Titanium definately if you can afford it.

Bars or rings is to a degree taste, but i think bars tend to heal better ime…..

I agree with oakbear.stainless steel is what i would pierce someone with and i prefer to use bars on the nipples cause they tend to heal alot better like oakbear said.i usually use a 5/8 or 1/2 depending the size of ther persons nipples.

Mine were pierced with horseshoe barbells. Much easier to clean. Put in barbells for a bit. they were a right pain too. Changed back to the horseshoe barbells. That's just me, though

That would depend all upon your aesthetic. I personally don't like the rings, and while I'm not a man, having rings in a bra, I would imagine would get very uncomfortable at times.

I would even just say stick with the barbells, they're simple to clean, and after the modification is a certain age, you could always put a curved bar into the piercing.

As far as make, go with titanium. That's what I use.

Big risk, nipple piercings will chaff if you run a lot, and that can delay healing, cause migration and hurt a lot!.

For general excercise i've used self adhesive dressing to cover them, but not sure how that'd hold up for a marathon.

It also means that rings are a non-starter imho. Bars all the way….

I try to only pierce with bars, and if someone wants a ring I try to convince them to wait until it heals.  The channel that is formed by the needle is going to be a little curved because of how the forceps hold the skin, but it will resemble a bar more than the curvature of a ring, making a bar pinch the tissue less so it would theoretically migrate less likely.  Also, rings catch on things more easily, expecially like circular barbels.  I agree with vamp about size, I really like 1/2 in bars in nipples too.  If a dressing won't hold up well, you can always put hard eye patches over your nipples to make an awkward looking bra and tape them down to your skin.  I know that when I normally run, without pierced nipples, they get chaffed as fuck, and that's not even a marathon.

Apathos and Oakbear…..when I run I use a product called Bodyglide.  It looks like a stick of deoderant but it's clear and forms a layer between your skin and whatever is rubbing on it.  You should give it a shot.

That sounds like a helpful product thanks.

How does it go on piercings though? Would it clog?

I haven't had any problems with it clogging. It easily washes off with soap and water.

I can't seem to keep nipple piercings, but it's still good to gather knowledge!

I'm always a bit reluctant to put anything on a healed piercing as it may cause problems (definately not on unhealed), but i guess we'll never know what is safe unless we experiment a bit!Cool

One of my nipple piercings started rejecting years after I got it and long after it was healed for no particular reason.  I still have no idea why although I removed it before it could reject completely in order to minimize scarring.  I still need to get that re-pierced.  Hopefully I'll have more luck the second time around.  I still have the other nipple piercing and its been about 7 years now.
