I had my flats punched more than a year ago, and they were not healing right. They were sore to sleep on, frequently crusty or weepy, but they did not appear to be infected (per piercer and doctor). They just wouldn't heal. It's like they were in a constant stage of being 1-week healed, and would never progress beyond that. I suspect that it had something to do with another health problem of mine.

So I decided to take the jewelry out and give them some air (at piercer's suggestion). They had glass single-flare plugs in them. I left the jewelry out overnight, hoping that the hole would dry up some and start on its way to healing, even if that meant I had to downsize some.

Overnight, the hole completely closed!

It has now been about 2-3 weeks, and there is a slight pink divot in my ear, but the hole definitely closed. The skin is healthy and I can sleep on it again.

Has anyone else experienced such a large punch closing overnight?

Yeah, strommer, I couldn't believe it either. Initially, I just though the hole was filled with scab and would fall out eventually. Nope. It completely closed. There isn't even anything to taper open. I may have to have it repierced again later. Then again, I had such problems with it for a year, I may not!

Hi Tiffany!

It seems there's an individual element in this. Some people seem to heal punches without jewellery or shrinkage, others shrink even when healed. I've certainly heard of it closing quickly before though. When i was healing mine shrunk a fair bit very quickly. Now it's been there a few years it seems to stay the same, even though it's stretched beyond the original size.

You should be ok to stretch back up, much easier than regular cartilage stretching, but it may still be a slow process. I'd see what size you can comfortably fit, and try to heal that. When it's happy, stretch back up.

I have heard of similar situations, but a 2g Punch especially in Cartliage healing overnight?

That's interesting, and actually kinda cool.

But it's a shame it didn't work out for you. Dx

Yeah, it closed overnight and it was over a year old! I just don't heal cartilage piercings very well. I had similar problems when my nostrils were pierced. Oh well! Life lived, lesson learned.

That's a shame.

Perhaps there will be a different way in the future to care for them that may help your body heal them better.

Good luck with the rest of your endevours though :)
