Sharing Your Experience WIth Another | General Discussion | Forum
As I prepare for my 8th suspension in a few hours, I have gotten to thinking about sharing of one's ritual body modification experiences with others. This time around, I will be suspending with 3 other people (consecutively, not at the same time) one of which is a friend and going up for the first time and another of which is my partner and going up for the second time.
For me, suspension has always been a very meaningful experience and, while I have suspended in the presence of others many times and suspended with others one other time, this is my first time suspending with anyone I knew prior and my first time suspending with my partner, or even having a partner who would want to share this experience with me. I think these facts have the potential to make this among my most meaningful suspension experiences.
Have any others had the opportunity to share their body modification rituals with others and, if so, how did that change the experience? What was the meaning behind doing so?

I am glad you are having the opportunity to connect with a partner for a suspension… what a great opportunity! I would like to hear about the intensity and/or comfort that brought you, if it did, and how it was different than the other times, if it was.
I feel super fortunate to have had the opportunity to pierce side by side with a partner. We did tandem nipples piercings on a regular basis and people came to the studio just for that experience. The synchronicity felt was long lasting and we had an amazing relationship partly due to the shared reality we were able to live. It is difficult to express in words. I have never been the person suspending during a suspension, but I have done piercing and rigging on several occasions. I absolutely enjoy creating and facilitating ritual…. full on smoke and mirrors and bells and whistles and nitty and gritty. All of it!
In a chat room class I shared an experience of piercing a guy from Argentina on top of a mountain and seeing the sun rise through his brand new ear piercings as he could see the reflection in my eyes. That guy has found me a few times since then and spoke to me about the beauty of the tears rolling down my smiling face.
Anyway, I hope the suspension was everything you wanted and more!! I hope it created uncharted areas within that you can feel eager to explore…. in yourself and your partner.
This is an interesting topic, as in some respects all but self done modifications are shared.
In my case even that was shared in most situations, as my wife was there as a 'sitter' should i need assistance or something go wrong.
I find that the sharing of an experience can create a powerful bond, between artist and subjects, and bonds between each of them.
It's little wonder that community plays a huge part in many traditional modification rituals.
I find it strongly as part of a suspension team. Some of us had never met before the team formed, but now it is a lot like family. There are things shared which can't be articulated, powerful feelings which we each have felt together.
