I thought we could have a little fun by implementing a point system here on the forum. In a nutshell, certain actions will reward you for a certain amount of points. Once you accumulate a certain amount of points we'll send you free stuff like stickers and t-shirts. It's basically a fun way to thank the people who are active here on the CoBM forum and who openly share their knowledge and experiences.

The breakdown of points is:
10 points for starting a new topic
4 points for a new post
1 point for voting on a topic
2 points for logging in per day

The number of points needed will be:
1000 points = CoBM Decal
5000 points = CoBM T-shirt

Please don't try to beat the system and post "junk" topics as we won't honor the points.

Any questions?

I approve of this idea.  Hopefully it'll result in getting the forums a little more active :)

I'd like to see the Doom "god mode" icon next to the person's name with the most points (me).

It does occur to me that with the current system, it'd be pretty easy to get that decal in less than a month just by logging in and chacking the forums every day.  If that's the intendented timeline than great, but it seems a little quick to me.  Maybe a tweak on the amount of point system for logging in or posting or a tweak in the number of points needed for the rewards?

Could this be retroactive? haha. I'm definitely down.

Nice idea, although the threshold seem quite low, and i agree the 5 points for logging in is pretty generous! I log in almost every day…..

I definitely think you should think about running a trial, to see how quickly members here accumulate points, to make sure the activity matches the prize attained.

Very generous points!!

I agree with Vampyremage that the amount of points per activity should perhaps be reevaluated before implementing said points system.

Very nice incentives for others to be more active, though Smile

Ok, after posting my comment, I do have a question….

A '+5' popped up on my screen directly after posting my comment.

I'm assuming the points system is already in action?

Yes, the +5 has to do with gaining points when you write up a post.  I'm even more convinced the point system might need to be revised a bit today.  As you can see, with the current implementation James is almost to his decal and I'm not too far behind him and its only been a day since its been implemented.  Seems just a little fast to me.

As much as I'd love that shirt sooner than later, I have to agree. This is a bit hasty, and I didn't even spam. haha.

And now I come back less than an hour later and find James has won himself a CoBM decal.  Congratulations haha.

Whoah! You all are right, the point system needs some tweeking. I'm certainly open to suggestions. The points will continue to be assisned but the number needed for swag will be adjusted and will be on hold for a few days. Sorry, James. :)

I would start with reducing the number of points you get for logging in every day.  Personally I don't think more than 1 point each time you log in would be warranted.  If you want to keep the 5 points for a post and 10 points for starting a thread the same, I'd probably recommend increasing the totals needed for prizes by at least 5fold and possibly 10fold.  That way active posters still have a realistic goal for actually getting prizes but it'll take more than a day or two to get them :P

This is why one of my initial posts was as following:

If you recall, I am an active poster – I used to lead the forums by over 40 posts, and that was just past the 100 post mark. Vampyremage snuck in and stole my lead during my absence. >:[. haha.

This certainly seems to be working!

I logged in as usual, and there's 13 unread topics, which must be a record!
