We’ve been busy.

July 2nd, 2008

Tiffany, Russ, and I have been busy when it comes to running the CoBM. I’m sure no one knows but there is a hidden section on the forum for board members only. Just between the three of us there are 98 posts within 15 topics; we’ve been busy! Things we’ve done include depositing the CoBM’s funds into a new bank account, interviewing potential ministers, editing and adding to the Bylaws, as well as daily tasks such as counseling members and accepting new members. Things on the table which may come to fruition include participation in conferences, sponsoring a ritual pull, sending out membership packets, and of course filing for incorporation. There are a few other business matters that we’re working on and I’ll let you know about them once they’re completed.

When it comes to incorporation, it has taken longer than expected. There was some initial problem in opening a new bank account and having access to the Church’s funds. As of this week, this has been taken care of and we are once again on track to incorporate. According to those helping it should take about 25 days. We’ll keep you posted!

Open Board Positions

April 11th, 2008

April 11, 2008

MEMORANDUM

TO:  Church of Body Modification Members

FROM:  Chris Carter, President

SUBJECT:  Open Board Positions

The Church of Body Modification is actively seeking passionate individuals to fill its empty seats in the Board of Directors. Applicants must be involved in the body modification community and firmly believe in and support the mission and ideals of the CoBM. Qualities of applicants should include integrity, creativeness, flexibility, sincerity, and initiative.

Duties will include constant communication with other board members, making recommendations regarding the future management of the CoBM, appointing future ministers, developing and approving administrative policy, and to ensure and manage resources, as well as specific jobs that will be assigned to them. A Board member’s main objective is to promote the Church’s values, vision, mission, and objectives in a positive and constructive way.

We believe a position such as this should be inherent in a person. As such, there is no specific application to fill out. If you are interested in filling a board position, simply send an email to admin@uscobm.com and tell us about yourself. Points to make may include experience in leadership positions as well as knowledge and activity within the body modification community. All questions regarding the position will be answered promptly and directly. An email to us is the first step in this process. The second step is a private online interview with current board members.

All applicants and their applications will remain private.

MEMORANDUM

TO:  Church of Body Modification Members

FROM:  Chris Carter, President

SUBJECT:  Tiffany LeClair

I am pleased to announce that Tiffany LeClair has accepted a permanent seat on the Board of Directors.  Tiffany has been an active and integral part of the CoBM since early February.  Her contributions include coding the member and minister applications and review and editing of important documents.  Her thoughtful advice and original ideas are helping to shape the future of the Church.  There are few things Tiffany hasn’t had a hand in since the relaunch of the CoBM earlier this year.  She is a great asset to the Church and a wonderful person, too.

Tiffany can be reached at tiffanyleclair@uscobm.com.  You can also read more about her here:

Behind the Scenes

March 5th, 2008

Everything is moving forward smoothly as we had hoped. Let me fill everyone in on the highlights:

  •  We have written Church bylaws, rules by which this organization will be run. These will be ever-evolving and you can read them here.
  • The website has been updated and, along with the bylaws, a mission statement and a statement of faith has been posted for all to read.
  • The Church now has a myspace page along with nearly 1,000 friends. Please friend us and tell other people about the CoBM.

The next update will include biographies of the board members, an online store with custom stickers, buttons, and jewelry, and most importantly information regarding the incorporation of the Church of Body Modification.

Questions to Answers

February 11th, 2008

Hi everyone. I’ve been getting a lot of email and I wanted to clear up a few things. First, registering for the main site, registering for the forums, and becoming a member of the CoBM are three distinct things.

By registering for the main site it allows you to comment on posts. Later on registered members of the main site will be allowed to do an assortment of things which may include uploading photos and writing articles (which will be reviewed and posted by admin). Other suggestions are welcome.

Registering for the forums allows you to take part in discussions. As of right now, all topics are in public view but later on there may be discussion topics which will require a person to register in order to view and post to them.Today there is no way to officially register as a member of the CoBM. The reason is this: this site and all of its operations are being handled by a single person. I am not currently prepared to handle hundreds of member applications as well as other day to day administrative duties. But more importantly, what does it mean to be a member of the CoBM? Do members have duties they must perform? What are the requirements to become a member? These are weighty questions and I don’t believe a single person should have all the say in such matters. For now this is what makes sense to me- If your beliefs closely resemble the doctrine of the CoBM and you would like to consider yourself a member then do so. When this policy changes and there is an official member application we will let you know.

For now I recommend everyone, regardless of whether you consider yourself a CoBM members or not, to participate in the forums. That way we can get to know one another and continue our journey and expand our knowledge.

Thank you.
